Something Javier was right about: installing HVAC a year ago. (I said it wasn’t a big deal and couldn’t we just deal with it and something about climate change.) There were some hot days last summer where we were glad to have it, and of course it’s been nice to have through the winter so I haven’t had to wear my sleeping bag around the house like other years. These last few days have been hot again, and without the wall unit the attic would be unbearable and surely not OSHA-compliant for a workplace. I still don’t like to turn it on downstairs because it’s a bigger space, so I go upstairs for a heat break occasionally (and then sometimes that turns into a nap on the couch (and then sometimes Javier shouts at his computer and wakes me up unpleasantly.)) One problem I’ve been having with not cooling the downstairs, though, is I haven’t figured out appropriate Zoom attire. I wore a tank top today and noticed that somehow necklines look more scandalous on-screen than they really are. Also I seem to heat up during calls, even if I’m not agitated or nervous.
Something I was right about: Javier has admitted that we should have an electric coffee bean grinder. He bought a small hand grinder, so every morning I have to hand grind our coffee and it’s kind of fine but also kind of sucks. He used to grind coffee at the grocery store for his cold brew, so the laborious grinding was only my hot-coffee thing, but now given everything he feels weird using such a public machine and there’s no way we could manually grind enough coffee for cold brew all at once. So now that it’s his problem, too, he’s capitulated about the electric grinder.
